Filing bankruptcy from abroad.Filing bankruptcy from abroad.

I also left a general power of attorney with a family member in Canada in the case my house was not able to sell before I ran out of money to continue to pay for it.

Would it be better to use that power of attorney in Canada or file from Ecuador?

Note that I am unable to leave Ecuador until next July or I will lose my residency status here.

Thank you!

It has got more difficult in the last few years for people to file bankruptcy from abroad.

However, you can contact a trustee in Canada, where you formerly lived to see if you can get a trustee to handle your file.

Technically you should be able to file from abroad however, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy may not allow it.
